Places of interest to visit in Benicàssim:
Las Palmas Desert: (10 min.) With an area of around 3,200 hectares, Las Palmas Desert Natural Park extends through the mountainous area behind the town of Benicàssim. The denomination of desert refers to the spaces enabled by Carmelitas Descalzos religious order, used for spiritual retreat, and whose main exponent is the monastery that was built in 1694. It has a museum that you can visit if you request it in the monastery.
Ruta de Las Villas: A set of 20th century villas characterized by their architectural richness and the beauty of their gardens. According to the character of the original residents, we can divide them into three zones: The “Infierno”, because of the scandalous parties that were celebrated, The “Celestial Court” for the tranquility of its streets. And the gardens of Comín, popularly known as “the Limbo” since they were right between both areas.
Vía Verde (Benicàssim-Orpesa): Leaving from Benicàssim and reaching towards Orpesa, there is a 5.5 km route. The first part crosses a small tunnel, later, you will pass near the first Watchtower on a beautiful cliff over the sea, where there is a rest area and viewpoint. The road runs between trenches and open areas with views of the sea, until it reaches a long tunnel (about 600 m). After passing through this long tunnel, we arrive at km 5 where the port and yacht club of Orpesa are located, leaving only 500 m to reach the first buildings of Orpesa, being able to go down to the promenade to the play areas and bars on the beach.
Torre San Vicente, 16th Century: Watchtower whose mission was the surveillance and defense of the coast from corsair attacks. Dates from the 16th century. It is square in plan. The interior is accessed through a single door that is one meter eighty from the ground level. The tower is surrounded by a beautiful garden, located by the sea with a large leisure area. It can currently be visited.
Places of interest to visit, near Benicàssim:
Marina d’Or Gardens: (15 min.) In front of Orpesa beach, with a quiet atmosphere to stroll in the morning or at sunset. Relax by the sea and, in turn, meet varied fauna and flora.
Vilafamés: (33 min.) Located on top of a mountain in the Sierra de les Conteses, it has everything a tourist could wish for: good food, spectacular views and a beautiful village crowned by a castle.
Grutes de Sant Josep: (45 min.) An eternal spring in the depths of Mount San Josep, located in Vall d’Uixó, specifically in Sierra de Espadán Natural Park. This spot is the longest navigable underground river in Europe.
Peníscola: (45 min.) One of the most charming towns in Spain. With an imposing old town, narrow alleys, white houses and where you can find the castle of former Pope Luna. In Peníscola you can also enjoy nature hiking through the Sierra de Irta.
Morella: (1.33h.) Morella is a beautiful town in the interior of Castelló. It is a walled town (2 kilometers of wall, 10 towers and 7 gates), guarded by a castle. A place with a lot of history, a lot of heritage and a lot of charm.
Santuario de la Balma: (1.45h.) A small church and restaurant built on a natural shelter, where the views and the imposing construction leave no one indifferent, least of all the history that surrounds it. An idyllic place to sit down and eat your spoon dishes or stone-grilled meats.
